Plaquenil Retinal Exams, Aurora, ON
If you are using Plaquenil for eye inflammation, it is important to schedule annual Plaquenil retinal exams.
As is the case with using any prescribed medication, monitoring is recommended if you are using Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine) as a treatment for eye inflammation. Here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry, we offer and recommend regular Plaquenil retinal exams to determine if you are suffering from changes due to long-term use of this medication.
Plaquenil retinal exams are designed to check your near central and central vision to see if they have been affected. While you should not be overly concerned this could happen to you, it is important to stay on top of any vision changes you are experiencing. This is especially true if you notice blurred vision, distorted or curvy lines, or holes in the grid.
Our Plaquenil retinal exams use an Amsler Chart to test each eye separately, as one eye can be affected and not the other in some cases. Should we find an issue during your exam, we will go over our findings and what we recommend as the next step.
If you use Plaquenil, you should schedule Plaquenil retinal exams every year, as early detection of any macular damage is critical to avoid irreversible vision loss or bulls-eye maculopathy. It is a common misconception that you can stop having the exams if you’ve used the medication without incident for several years. The reality is that you are more at risk the longer you use it, so problems can still happen five years or more down the road.
If you are in the Aurora, Ontario area and you have any questions about our Plaquenil retinal exams or any of our optical services, don’t hesitate to contact us to schedule an appointment.
