Ocular Conditions, Aurora, ON
Don’t let ocular conditions rob you of clear vision – our services for patients in the Aurora area will diagnose the problem and provide the necessary treatment.
While most people think of eye issues only in terms of vision correction, there are actually a number of ocular conditions that can develop. Here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry, we provide several different services for those in the Aurora, Ontario area who are experiencing symptoms related to these different ocular conditions.
The two that relate to vision directly are myopia (near-sightedness) and hyperopia (far-sightedness). Both of these are a refractive error when the eye is either longer or shorter than average, causing light to focus in front of or behind the retina. Another common ocular condition is astigmatism, which is when the cornea has more curvature than average.
Some ocular conditions present themselves as you get older. Presbyopia can present itself in the early-to-mid-40s, when the lens in the eye that focuses for close-up vision has become harder and cannot focus automatically when reading, resulting in the need for reading glasses. Cataracts are another possibility, although more likely under certain risk factors such as accumulated UV exposure, certain medications, and poor nutrition. Some diseases and traumas can also contribute. Glaucoma and posterior vitreous detachment are other ocular conditions that we watch for when you are a patient here.
A few of the lesser-known ocular conditions that we also diagnose and treat include blepharitis, which is a chronic inflammation of the eyelids; amblyopia, referred to as lazy eye, which is correctible if diagnoses early; and retinal tears, which can occur with a head injury.
