Problems with your eyes can be very frustrating to deal with. Whether you are suffering from blurry vision, dry eyes, itchy eyes, sore eyes, or any kind of eye disease, it can be miserable. You might be tempted to just deal with your eye issues because you are not sure who to see about it. But there is help available– you should visit with an optometrist at an eye clinic as soon as possible. They will help you get to the bottom of your eye problems and help your eyes feel better. When your eyes feel bad, it can affect your entire body. Good eye health will make your body feel better so you can get back to feeling normal.
When you visit an eye clinic, they will first give you an eye exam. They will do a vision screening to make sure that your eyesight is good. If they find that your eyesight is off, they will give you a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, depending on your preference. They will also look at your eyes with specialized equipment that will be able to look inside your eyes to see all the different parts of your eyes, including your retinas and corneas. They will make sure that everything looks healthy. The doctor will also check for any eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, or retinopathy. They can also check your eyes for signs of diabetes that could be causing you a problem with your eyes. If the doctor finds anything wrong, they can prescribe medicines as needed or come up with a treatment plan. They will have your eyes feeling better soon.

Family optometry can provide your family with great services to help keep them healthy in all areas.

When it comes to the health and well-being of our families, most of us do everything to make sure that our family members are healthy and well-cared-for. We want to do everything we can to help them be healthy and happy. We will usually take them in for check-ups with a doctor and have their teeth cleaned by a dentist, but we often forget to take them to the optometrist to make sure their eyes are healthy. It is a good idea to have everyone in your family get eye exams on a regular basis to make sure their eyes are healthy.
Making sure your family gets regular eye exams is essential to their health and well-being. Even if you do not think you or any of your family members have any vision problems, it is good to double-check. Sometimes they can find that someone has blurry vision and they just always thought seeing blurry is normal. An optometrist can also check to make sure your eyes are healthy. They can check for things like lazy eye, glaucoma, retinopathy, and a whole host of other eye problems. Regular exams will help ensure that your eyes and your family’s eyes are healthy and will remain healthy. Vision can change, and so can the health of your eyes, so setting up a plan for regular visits with your optometrist will make sure they can catch anything before it becomes too big of a problem.

When it comes to eyeglasses, so many of us need them for corrective reasons. There are also some people who like to wear glasses as a style accessory. No matter which group you fall into, you want to look your best with your eyeglasses, and a lot of this has to do with the shape of your face. At Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry, we have a few suggestions for pairing the right pair of frames with your core face shape.
• Heart- A heart-shaped face has a very narrow or pointy chin with wide cheekbones and forehead. Frames that are shaped with emphasis on the bottom of the frame will appear to drag your face downwards, so choose rectangular or oval frames.
• Square- Because your square features are accentuated by a strong jawline, it’s best to put a little visual interest to your face. Choose rimless or semi-rimless glasses for some great accenting.
• Oval- If you have an oval face- consider yourself lucky! Most types of frames are going to look great on you. Feel free to choose glasses that are a fun colour or pattern.
• Round- To balance out your round face, choose frames that are more angular. Frames that come in a square, rectangular or semi-square are going to look nice.
• Diamond- Diamond face shapes have very prominent cheekbones. If you have ever wanted to rock a pair of horn-rimmed glasses, the diamond shape is most able to pull these off! You can also look for circular rims or rectangular, but stay away from square rims, which will pull your cheekbones inward in an unflattering way.
If you have questions about eyeglasses and which shape to choose, we are happy to help you. Come in and see us today!
Many people wear eyeglasses on a regular basis. Around half the population requires eyeglasses to correct their vision, and it can be very irritating to have smudges, dirt or dust stuck on your glasses causing eye strain and other problems. Dirty eyeglasses are a problem for more than vision strain but can harbour bacteria near your eyes and nose, which are both key entrances for sickness to enter the body. Here at the office of Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry, we would like to help ensure that your eyeglasses are clean for your health and your convenience.
Cleaning your eyeglasses doesn’t need to be a terribly time-consuming process, especially when it’s done on a regular basis. The most important thing about cleaning your eyeglasses is to use the right materials, and we don’t mean the end of your sleeve! Cleaning your eyeglasses should be done with a lint-free cloth or microfiber, since these are not going to make small scratches in the glass of your eyeglasses. Furthermore, using materials that are approved for glasses are best, but for a deeper cleaning, a small drop of dish soap can be used. When you are cleaning your glasses as well as your lenses, be sure to concentrate on the areas that touch your face, such as the nose pieces and frames.
If you ever have questions about how to safely clean your eyeglasses, please don’t hesitate to ask us here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry for guidance.
Eye exams are important for everyone, not just those of us who have a problem with our vision. The health of your eyes says a lot about the health of the rest of your body and tracking that health from a very early age can be very insightful and important. Here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry, we want to help ensure that your children have healthy eyes starting with early eye exams, at least starting at the age of six months.
Because so much of an adult eye exam is based on patient feedback, many people wonder how it’s even possible for optometrists to determine an infant’s eyesight ability. The fact of the matter is that, for many things, your eye doctor doesn’t need the patient to speak — the eyes will do all the talking! For example, we will use lights to see if your baby’s pupils react to light properly, and if both of the pupils react the same or differently. We might also ask you to bring a toy or something your baby enjoys looking at and will then move the toy to see how your child’s eyes follow and track an object. We can then lightly cover an eye and test each eye individually to see if one eye struggles more than the other.
When it comes to eye problems at this young age, early intervention is key and most likely to be successful. If you have a small child and notice their eye movements are a little jerky, one eye moves independent of the other or if you have a history of eye issues, please come see us for an early eye exam.
If your little one has vision problems, it’s best to start treatment and correction early. Many parents are surprised to learn that their babies and toddlers not only need eyeglasses but can learn to wear them on a regular basis with a bit of patience. If your young child needs corrective eyewear, then we here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry would like to help you get your children used to their new specs.
One of the best things that you can do when it comes to eyeglasses is to take it slow. Children don’t always react well to things being on their face and will, understandably, take their eyeglasses right back off. This is normal and not a worrisome reaction! Instead, ease your children into wearing glasses by putting them on and giving them positive reactions for leaving them on.
Another great tip is to have your child put their eyeglasses on and then occupy them immediately with their favorite activity, preferably one that keeps their hands busy. Whether it is playing with blocks or playdough, they are less likely to be focused on their new eyeglasses and more on the task.
Finally, do what you can to make the glasses comfortable. Kids do not like to adjust their glasses if they fall down on their nose; instead they will just remove them. Working with our professionals, we can find the right fit and help you with things like ear straps to keep their eyeglasses on and comfortably snug.

Just like any other trip to the doctor, a children’s eye exam can be scary if you’ve never experienced it before. If your child has a routine eye exam coming up and it is their first one, parents can do several things to help turn this into a positive experience rather than an anxious one. Here are a few ways that you can help:
• Don’t keep the appointment a secret! When it comes to children’s eye exams, one of the worst things you can do is spring them on your child. Tell them before the exam and help them prepare rather than show up to the office with a child who is confused and scared. This will only make them more anxious.
• Play “eye exam” with your child. While you won’t have the office, the chair or the equipment, you can have your child pretend the basic components of an eye exam by pretending to look in their eyes or having them cover an eye and find a picture on the wall.
• Be positive before, during and after your children’s eye exams. Children often take cues from their parents, and if you are anxious or worried during an exam, they will be, too. Making this a positive experience can benefit them over their lifetime, so say only positive things and have an upbeat attitude for this process.
• Take a comfort item. Does your child have a favorite blanket or stuffed animal? Most routine children’s eye exams will be just fine for a special security friend to accompany your child.
These are just a few things that can help your child during an eye exam. For other tips, please call the office of Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry today.
If you want to take good care of your health, you need good doctors. When it comes to selecting the right doctor, you should take as much care with choosing an optometrist as you do with your general physician. Your eyes are a vital part of your everyday life and health, so it’s important to make sure that they are being looked after by the best possible team. To help you get the expert care you deserve, our team here at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry will go over three qualities that you should look for in an optometrist.
• Qualifications- When searching for an optometrist, one of the first things you should review are their qualifications. For starters, check to see that they have an eye specialty degree. Then look online to check out their work history to see how long they’ve been practicing and whether they’ve adopted the current best practices.
• Technology- Another thing to look for when comparing optometry practices is what kind of technology each one uses. From retinal cameras to visual field tests to specular microscopes, optometrists have a wealth of cutting-edge technology they can use to more accurately identify issues and help patients more effectively. We at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry use the latest technology to continually improve your care, and we encourage you not to settle for less.
• Reputation- The last thing we’ll cover in this article is that your optometrist should have a stand-out reputation. Before you commit to a doctor, look online and read some patient reviews. Learning about other patients’ experiences with a doctor is a great way to get a better sense of whether they are right for you.
We at Dr. Miller & Dr. Tilis Family Optometry hope that this information helps make your decision process easier. Of course, if you’re looking for an expert optometrist in Ontario, you can always turn to our team.
