LASIK eye surgery has become increasingly popular over the past several years, as more and more people want to get rid of their glasses and contact lenses for good. But how do you know if LASIK is right for you or if continuing to wear glasses or contacts may be the better fit? We’ve outlined a few pros and cons of the surgery that may help you determine if having this procedure is right for you.
PRO – Improvement in Vision Within 12-24 Hours. As the cornea heals, many patients may experience an improvement in the clarity of their vision without corrective lenses. If you have been wearing spectacles or contact lenses for many years, this could come as a wonderful change!
CON – Temporary Difficulty with Night Vision. Sometimes as a result of the LASIK procedure, patients will experience night vision issues, including halos, glare or light sensitivity. The good news is this is usually a temporary side effect. Occasionally, night vision issues may last for longer periods, but often patients experience improvements within about three months.
PRO – Save Money! How much money have you spent on contact lenses and/or glasses over the years? It will feel great to know that you don’t have this expense any longer and you can enjoy life without corrective lenses!
CON – Dry Eyes. Some patients may experience dry eye for several weeks to several months after the procedure, and may require eye drops or an oral supplement to help with this condition. We are happy to assist patients with this issue and can make recommendations so that your new eyes are as comfortable as possible.
PRO – Quick and Easy Procedure. LASIK eye surgery can be completed without the hassle of a hospital stay. The actual procedure lasts only a few minutes and patients can go home the same day.
